1640 has been known to be a reference point in the West Coast of the Maltese Islands, for the island’s largest burger and heavenly crispy Pizzas in a unique wine bar setting. 1640, owes its modest origin as one of the few 17th century ‘Kerrejja’ in the lovely quiet village of Dingli. Throughout the years this historic property, hosted many families growing up to the authentic taste of Maltese dishes prepared by the resourceful and skilled housewives. The menu's main focus are gourmet hot dogs that are a little bit out of the ordinary. In fact, they have a whooping 14 hot dogs to choose from including the Heatwave (with Doritos, rucola, salami spinata and sriracha sauce), the Mexican Paradise (chili con carne, jalapenos and firecracker mayo), the Pork Hog Roast (with crispy bacon, provolone cheese, fried egg, crispy onions, three peppercorn sauce) and the Maltese Sausage (local pork sausage, caramelised onions, Gozitan peppered cheese-lets).

If you fancy an alternative to pork, you might want to wrap your lips around the Asparagus Chicken (with mozzarella di bufala, bresaola), the Minty Lamb, the Salmon Sensation, the Lemon Chicken (with goat cheese and a beetroot relish) or the BlackedOut (pork and beef sausage, crispy onions, melted cheese, bacon, pulled pork bites and in-house sauce).

More of a burger fan? Black Paw has you covered. Choose from their classic Angus beef (with provolone cheese, tomatoes and raw red onions), a buttermilk chicken burger, a breaded salmon fillet burger and more.

Cicchetti, meaning ‘small dishes’ serves a selection of carefully chosen Tapas dishes from around the world.

Our small, casual restaurant, set on the Naxxar Pjazza, looking onto the Church is a perfect evening out with friends and family for a meal or for a few drinks and nibbles after a hard day’s work.

During the winter months, the dining area is equipped with heaters and blankets which keep our guests nice and cosy.

Grape vine covered courtyards, home grown herbs, multi coloured lights, and a myriad of wind chimes give a flirtatious wink of what's to come. You feel like a special guest in your best friend's home.

If you have visited Coogi's before then you surely don't need reminding that the courtyards, bastions and internal medieval rooms are simply magical when bathed in soft candle light.

Dining beneath the vine, accompanied by the tinkling of wind chimes, and the sound of running water is to be transported to a peaceful place which is all to easy to forget still exists here in Malta.

The staff at Coogi's also play their role, they are very friendly, attentive, brisk, and well-mannered - a breath of fresh air in itself.

History

A short history about the building itself.

Essentially, this was an old Arab townhouse, with some walls of Arab origin, and some rooms dating back to the Norman era, with later additions throughout history.

Its façade faces South, while the bastion terrace looks toward the North, over land and sea, with St. Paul's Bay visible in the distance, and even Sicily on some clear nights.

There is an underground spring and functioning well, and even a wartime air raid shelter. The shelter was hewn directly into the bastion walls.

This place was in a state of disrepair when we first took it over, but we worked hard to retain all of the original features and built around these unique features (and on top of them, under them etc. etc...).

We hope you enjoy the unique atmosphere this building helps to create.

There's a new stylish deli in town, and it's unique take on flavour is set to take Malta by storm. Danny's in Qormi will be serving tasty takes on some incredible dishes, mixing flavours from all around the world.

One mouthwatering dish that fuses Indian and Middle Eastern styles and is already putting Danny's on the map is their homemade naan bread with lamb kofta, bringing two different flavours together in one glorious dish.

But Danny's has great dishes for all meals of the day - and for all diets. For those looking for a tasty, healthy, vegan breakfast, you need look no further than the coconut yoghurt bowl with homemade granola, banana and blueberries.

Or, you can start your day off with a bang with Danny's breakfast bun. It's got bourbon pancetta, cheddar, baked beans and an egg cooked to perfection on a thick bun. This will keep you going for hours.

And for the people who just don't care, there's the Nutella French toast for breakfast, which is as decadent as it sounds.

But wait - there's more.

The pumpkin, coconut and chilli soup with some of their homemade bread-rolls is a must try, as well as their paccheri Maltese sausage with roasted tomato, gbejna and cream - and both are perfect lunch dishes.

For another unique take on a Maltese classic, you have to try the rabbit croquette with tomato sauce. You've never eaten rabbit like this before.⠀

Or, you can just go for a classic dish like Danny's highly-rated cheeseburgers or their fish and chips.

And of course, a must-have side dish to whatever you order is the triple cooked chunky fries - these chips are crunchy on the outside and super fluffy on the inside.

If you want a remote place to unwind after the hustle and bustle of the festive season. We recommend you head over to ’Dive’ In in Ghar Lapsi. It has a great view of Filfla Island and Ghar Lapsi bay, and from Dive’s terrace, you can observe the beauty of the overhanging cliffs.

The restaurant/café is open all day and offers a nice selection of food, wine and spirits. Shandell makes you feel welcome, and the food is prepared and served with pride.

Our favourite food picks from their menu are their home-made burgers and the spare ribs. They are delicious!

If you want to visit this gem of a place in the South West of the Island, we highly recommend you call ahead to reserve a table, you definitely don’t want to miss out on reserving a meal on their terrace. During the day however you are welcome to walk into ‘Dive’ for a hot coffee and one of their selection of cakes. Its a lovely reward after a nice walk in the fresh air.

Maltese ftira and pastizzi are also on offer. For something a little more substantial, their superb chicken or smoked salmon salads are freshly made. Pizza, with both traditional as well as innovative toppings such pine nut and fig, catch the eye. Most visit Fontanella for their fabulous cakes, which are fantastic and extensive. ...there is only one place to visit,  Il-Barri Restaurant. Typical Maltese "Fenkata" (rabbit) dishes galore are the speciality of the house.

Il-Barri restaurant is located at Mgarr, right in the village square. The restaurant, being on three levels, lends itself well to different functions, which may include staff dinners, business lunches, and parties for special occasions, engagements, weddings and even conferences. Each dining space can be run independently from the other and therefore it is possible to offer privacy to our clients who want to use the restaurant for a particular function. The recently refurbished ground floors restaurant seats 80 people comfortably. On other floor the restaurant can take up to 120 persons in the spacious 1st floor hall, and another 80 persons in the rustic ambience of the floor below ground floor.

Il-Barri Restaurant has a vast a la carte menu with items varying from traditional Maltese dishes, a wide range of starters which one can find pasta with different sauces, soups, salads and others, various grills and fresh fish according to availability. Pizza is served in the evening. Our speciality is Fenkata amongst which is served in an earthware casserole dish. The rabbit can be served fried with garlic, in wine gravy or stewed. Other traditional dishes include beef olives (bragoli), horsemeat and quail.

At il-Barri you can enjoy the real pleasure of Maltese cuisine at its succulent best. Maltese food excellently cooked and served in a totally relaxed atmosphere… the true taste of tradition.
