During the evening the lights are dimmed transforming the establishment for the night's entertainment where we stay open in to the early hours. The Pub is one of the only English-style pubs in Malta, and the renowned last stop for legendary actor Oliver Reed.

It is called The Sun in Splendour Pub. A well-known Pub with the British people especially with the long stays, which we called "the golden oldies" and the ex-patriots, which served Malta during the war.

With the young generation of students (Maltese and foreigners) it is well known as "The Beer Garden".

Tico Tico is a cosy little typical local Maltese bar that serves bottled beer, though you can never go wrong with a nice cool cockltail or bottle of local beer!

It is also pretty much the only bar in town that does actually stay open till late.

Tico Tico is a wonderful place where one can go to past days. It’s a different kind of bar– hidden in the famous strait street of Valletta. The decorations are eclectic & artistic but everything about it is warm and inviting. They provide a perfect environment to kick back, enjoy drinks and chat with friends.

It’s not a loud bar and due to it kind of being an old establishment, it is a great place to lounge around in strait street itself (subject to weather of course).

All in all, a hidden gem and wonderful place to just have a drink and hang out.

Strait Street maybe the street with the most history in Valletta because of the ‘colourful scenes’ untill it’s recent past up to 30 years ago.

It was the place were duels took place in the days of the knights and bar fights during the British rule when members from the various services used to pick up fights against each other.

The street was full of bars with live music and girls for hire. All servicemen stationed in Malta have fond memories of `The Gut` as it was then known. However, it really came to life thanks to the sailors whose ships were berthed in the Grand Harbour. After weeks at sea, as soon as they were allowed on shore they would head to Strait Street. It`s true there used to be bar fights , also fights along the route back to their ships which were patrolled by MPs but the fights weren`t vicious like todays and seemed to form part of the fun.
