| Originally
built as the residence of the influential de Robertis family
at the turn of the sixteenth century by Capitano Giacomo de
Robertis from Bologna, who was then in the employ of the Knights
Hospitaller of St. John of Jerusalem, Rhodes and Malta (better
known as Knights of Malta).
It
later passed through marriage to the noble Testaferrata family
and later still to the Marquis De Sain family. In 1967 it
was converted to a hotel, with special care taken to preserve
the elegance and character of the building's architectural
beauty.
De
Robertis Roof Top Restaurant
The hotel offers a Roof Top Restaurant with an open air terrace
for Spring & Summer use (or when weather permitting for
that) serving a Table d'Hote Menu as well as an a la Carte
Menu, where clients on Half-Board are entitled to dine. An
underground Wine Cellar, serving salads, pizza and pasta.
A ground floor coffee shop, a comfortable lounge/TV room,
and also a sun bathing area right at the top which is about
the highest place in Valletta.
Perched high up at the south west edge of Valletta, overlooking
the bastions, Grand Harbour and most of the island. An air
conditioned, relaxed, elegant setting with open air dining
on the terrace in Spring, Summer and early Autumn.
Local
traditional dishes are also served along with the basically
French cuisine menus. There is a well chosen wine list with
an accent on the more colourful and happier beaujolais wines.
La
Cave - Wine Cellar / Pizzeria
Set in the old cellars of the palazzo, formerly the stables,
kitchen and mill-room, La Cave preserves the ambience of an
era long gone by. Hewn in rock walls, superbly vaulted with
thick barrel arches and others in the original honey coloured
stone, it is a place not to be missed.
We
serve pizzas and pasta dishes to delight even the "Gourmand"in
quality and quantity. Here you will find under one roof, practically
all the best wines of Malta as well as a very good selection
of international wines ranging from the noble, full bodied
Bordeaux Chateau La Tour, Pauillac to the light straw Frascati
Fontana Candida; from areas as far apart as Sicily and California
at prices so sensible to make other restaurants blush! Here
the wines have been priced for the adventurous client in mind
who would like to try several different bouquets in his stay
without emptying his bank account.
