Location: Great Siege Square - Valletta MCCA CULTURAL TOUR 05/02/2012 The Malta Council for Culture and the Arts is launching a new series of Cultural Tours. These Cultural Tours form part of our annual Cultural Calendar of Events. They enhance the understanding of our local culture and serve to increase the knowledge of Maltese historical heritage, traditions and skills. A total of eight cultural tours will be scheduled for the 2011–2012 season coming to an end on Saturday 19th May 2012. Participants will be accompanied by professional guides at all times and tours are available in Maltese and English. PAUL'S SHIPWRECK 10/02/2012 The first of the year's major feasts is celebrated in the Parish Church of St. Paul Shipwrecked in Valletta and in the streets of Malta's capital city. It commemorates the shipwreck of the Apostle St Paul on the Maltese Islands, an event which took place in 60 AD and which is recorded in the Acts of the Apostles. The feast is also a National Public Holiday. Once there, a formal ceremony takes place in which sentries providing ceremonial guard duties at important institutions are relieved by a new batch of sentries. Location: Club Miami, Numbero Uno - Ta’ Qali ALARME 19/02/2012 ALARME is a military re-enactment that portrays the historic and turbulent tenure of Malta by French troops, following Napoleon’s landing and conquest of the islands in 1798. The re-enactment gives an account of the French troops’ arrival in Malta, the subsequent attempt to administer the Maltese Islands by the new Republican government, the rebellion of the Maltese that led to the blockade of the French troops inside the harbour towns, as well as the French troops’ surrender to the British in 1800. ![]() The re-enactment starts at 11.00 hrs and lasts 50 minutes. Admission: Tickets at the Gate: Adults : Euros 7 Re-enactments Schedule at Fort St. Elmo 2012: 19 Feb 18 March 20 May 21 Oct 18 Nov One may be able to visit part of the fort only prior to the re-enactment. Therefore it is advisable to enter the fort well before the show starts. The re-enactments are held according to schedule as above. However, in case of inclement weather or else due to some unforeseen circumstance the event may be cancelled without prior notice. Contact : Malta Tourism Authority Location: Fort St Elmo - Valletta IN GUARDIA PARADE 26/02/2012 The IN GUARDIA PARADE is a re-enactment that portrays an authentic event that took place regularly inside Fort St. Elmo. The re-enactment portrays the inspection of the fort and its garrison by the Grand Bailiff of the Order of the Knights of St. John in charge of military affairs.
