The secret to their success according to David Micallef, head-chef and family member is “finding the freshest local produce and using them to prepare traditional Maltese dishes but incorporating new cooking methods and innovative twists on old ideas.”
Ta’ Soldi is renowned for its rabbit and horse meat dishes, but just open the menu to find an array of vegetarian dishes, fresh fish, pasta, pizza and grills. One of the latest additions to the ever expanding menu is the Maltese Ftira. Don’t expect a tired old hobz biz-zejt kind. This is the Ftira that time has forgotten. Special Ftira dough that once cooked becomes light and crispy; this base is then filled in six delicious styles. Flavours incorporating the tastes of the world. Taste the Ftira Tal-Imgarr – Spicy Chicken, just one example of the innovation of the Ta’ Soldi Kitchen.
2006 has seen Ta’ Soldi Restaurant receive numerous accolades for its accomplishments in regards to quality, commitment and excellence, receiving the INTERNATIONAL AWARD FOR TOURIST, HOTEL AND CATERING INDUSTRY in Madrid, Spain in January of 2006 and also the DIAMOND EYE AWARD in Paris, France in March of the same year.
Mario Gatt and David Micallef were present in both Madrid and Paris to accept the awards on behalf of the restaurant and all the family that contribute on a daily basis to its success.
Such International recognition of the restaurant has reaffirmed their assurance to provide food and service of the highest quality and to continue to serve the average Maltese patron in a friendly and inviting atmosphere. Even the typical yet delicious Maltese desserts are prepared by the family – as well as the home-made wine, produced using local grapes. Ta’ Soldi is just the place to experience the colourful history of a remarkable country – all served on a plate!
