TREND REPORT – RUNWAY HIGHLIGHTS FROM GLOBAL KIDS FASHION WEEK

Here is our quick round up of Global Kids Fashion Week and the runway event.

OUR FAVOURITE COLOURS FROM THE 90s ARE BACK FOR A NEW GENERATION OF KIDS

This the season for a nineties revival. Groove was definitely in the heart with 90’s revival being a key thread through all of the designer’s collections that showcased next season exclusively at GKFW. Show organisers carefully curated the looks of your favourite kids’ designer brands to play tribute to a decade where colours were brighter, prints were bold and little details made a statement. More than 20 mini models took to the stage backed by old-school tracks and decked out in iconic black lace up shoes.

Both Junior Gaultier and Marni stole the show with bright tartan checks in orange and pink. Electric blues coupled with large hothouse flower insignia were seen at Kenzo, reminiscent of the label’s striking new adult line. Junor Gaultier incorporated clashing colours into graphic prints on leggings, typical of a bold urban theme adopted by many of the brands.

NOSTALGIC FABRICS GET A MODERN REVAMP

Our favourite nostalgic fabrics were back in full force with velvet making an appearance in a sweet dress by Rachel Riley. Labels such as Scotch R’belle and Junior Gaultier both featured fun tutu inspired looks, which evoked a grunge era. Whimsical lace creations from Suzanne Ermann, Simonetta and Missoni also gave us reworked versions of bygone era styles.

Sweet plaids and shearling finishes made mini hipsters out of models for Tommy Hilfiger and Diesel. Corduroy was once again a popular choice featuring in both Tommy Hilfiger and Little Marc Jacobs.

ANIMAL MOTIFS ARE BACK THIS SEASON BUT THIS TIME WITH A WILD SIDE

Safari animals came out of their natural habitat. Kenzo drew on their adult line with big cats appearing on can’t-miss-em sweats and baseball caps. AlexandAlexa’s own label Kickle featured a giraffe emblazoned on a night time backdrop. Roberto Cavalli clashed bold hot-house prints with signature leopard print accessories making the label a special favourite with many members of the international press.

FAUX FUR IS BACK FOR KIDS NEXT SEASON

Faux fur is coming back for kids next season. Kate Mack-Biscotti showcased a wonderful dip-dyed coat, which the GKFW team paired with a sweet little monochrome dress.  Little Marc Jacobs went for a fur polka dot look with matching fluffy bag…smart but super-fun to wear.
