Whenever you're in Gozo a visit to Grape's Wine Bar in the old capital city of Victoria is the right choice. The wine bar is situated in St. George’s Square huddled by the side of St. George’s Basilica and blending in with the old world atmosphere of that part of the capital.
Inside the wine bar, it is all cheerful bright yellow and green, with warm lighting and a stylish décor. From the posters lining the walls to the bright red lettering, from the yellow stone walls to the rustic decorations, it all comes together to spell easy comfort and stylish cosiness. Behind the bar and around the various shelves, wine bottles glow dully in the lamplight, their deep tones adding life and sparkle to the old stone structure.
The wine bar is owned and managed by Dione who has had several experience in the industry and who has recently opened a small restaurant next door called "Rabbit Biss" which serves local dishes prepared by a Gozitan chef.
The menu offers delicious fresh and simple dishes, prepared using only the very freshest local produce, typically Mediterranean. For lunch one can savour a light and tasty meal such as a Grapes Platter along with fresh Gozitan bread and served with a jug of wine.
Most of the seats are in the square outside, in a clear nod towards its elegantly restrained ambience. During the day, the wine bar serves tea and coffee and Gozitan dishes for tourists wishing to sample local flavours. In the evening, when an atmospheric elegance presides, candles are lit and the bar serves a large selection of wines for those who want to soak in the square's atmosphere, with the beautiful basilica in the background.
Grapes Wine Bar is a great meeting point for friends to have a drink and Although Dione makes sure that the wine, entertainment and service are of the very best - what you really go for is the atmosphere there.
