| The first thing to strike
you here is the spacious and the view. A beautiful, wide terrace
overlooking Valletta Bastions, a grand indoor dining area…
Irrera spells Laidback dining, or maybe snacking, because
this place truly caters for whatever mood you happen to be
in. let’s start with those who enjoy a full meal, whether
it’s for lunch or dinner. The menu is varied to satisfy
the fussiest of eaters: pasta, meat, fish and poultry for
the adults and burgers, pizzas and other selections for the
kiddies. Then, for those who prefer something lighter, there
are a good selection snacks, salads, pitta bread, sandwiches
and bruschettas! Do check out the bruschettas menu –
there are more specialties on offer here than I’ve ever
seen elsewhere. And for those who love Italian specialties,
there are the exquisite Crespelle (pasta pancakes) to choose
from… and look out for the new menu coming out soon!

Families in particular will appreciate the
diversity offered at Irrera – not to mention the convenience.
First of all the location is central, Ta’ Xbiex –
parking cannot be easier in that area. For the mummies and
daddies, there’s not only the food to enjoy but also
the fantastic view of the historic bastions of Valletta, as
well as Sliema Creek and Manoel Island. And the children can
roam about happily on the huge terrace weather permitting!
But maybe from a family’s point of view, his best thing
is the price. Irrera accept big group booking and staff parties.

Sitting on the water’s edge in Ta’
Xbiex, with one of the most picturesque views of Valletta
across the crystal blue Mediterranean Sea is Irrera Restaurant
and Café. My family and I decided to sample the delights
of Irrera ourselves on a midweek evening. With the street
lights from Valletta dancing on the water we settled down
to consider the menu. The choice at Irrera is amazing: a menu
with meat and fish dished, Ftajjer, Baguettes, Pitta Bread,
Sandwiches, Salads, Pasta and Pizza.

We decided to sample the Sole Mio Bruschetta, which came
with a delicious tomatoes puree, cheese, basil and garlic
sauce, topped with soleggiati tomatoes and fresh rocket. The
onion rings served with a tasty mustard sauce dip and the
Cozze Marinate- Mussels cocked in white wine, garlic and olive
oil. All proved to be fresh and full of flavor. For main course
my partner decided on the Ravioli al Salmon, whilst my san
went for the Chicken Fillet with Mushroom Sauce, I thought
I would try out the Fried Calamari Rings, which came served
with a fresh salad and French fries. The portions were very
generous and everything was cooked to perfection.

With granitas of every flavor and a mouth watering menu
of desserts and ice creams, we just had to satisfy our sweet
tooth! So we ordered the Boscaiola, a short crust pastry filled
with Chantilly cream and covered with wild berries, a delicious
Passion Fruit Granita and a slice of Cassata – Chocolate
& Vanilla Ice-cream with a cream and candied fruit centre.
A perfect ending indeed!
